The Man Who Literally Saved the World

Posted on 29 Sep 2006 - by PvUtrix In:

Today is an important anniversary for Russian hero Stanislav Petrov, the Soviet missile commander who saved the world from nuclear destruction in 1983. Sadly there are plenty of other examples of this kind of thing. How long will we keep getting lucky?

Some of the most amazing things are happening inside you!

Posted on 11 Sep 2006 - by PvUtrix In:

“Biovisions at Harvard University” video “The inner life of the cell” shows some of the processes happening inside your cells. The scale of the work done inside your cells is trully incomprehensible, I can’t wait to see more of this kind of videos with explanations of different processes. If you know of any videos or movies similar to this, do leave a comment please.

Amazing sand

Posted on 28 Aug 2006 - by PvUtrix In:

This is hydrophobic sand, that hates water :) It would be pretty cool to have this kind of sand at the beach, so it doesn’t stick to your body, when you’re wet…

Free unlimited energy possible?

Posted on 25 Aug 2006 - by PvUtrix In:

An Irish company claims to have developed a device that generates energy out of interaction of magnetic fields. They published an article in the Economist, inviting scientists to examine their device and confirm that their invention works. As unbelievable as it may seem if this turns out to be true our world will become a much nicer place to live :)

Personaly I believe that it could be possible, I’m a hopeless optimist, however… And these guys… Unless they are some sick people, who just want publicity, I see no reason for them to lie…

Why would they invite scientists from all over the world to test their invention, if it didn’t work?
